Starting January 27, 2025, visitors can now work remotely for overseas employers or clients while in New Zealand. This applies to all visitors - tourists, family visitors, and even partners and guardians on longer visas.
What does this mean? You can enjoy New Zealand's beauty while keeping up with your work back home. No more worrying about breaking visa rules!
This applies to both visitor visa holders and those with NZeTAs (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority).
But remember, there are some rules:
- No working for Kiwi employers
- No selling goods or services in New Zealand
- No physical presence at New Zealand workplaces
Now, about taxes:
- It depends on your situation, so make sure you understand the rules
- If you're taxed elsewhere and stay less than 92 days in a year, you're usually tax-free in NZ
- From countries with tax treaties? You might get up to 183 days tax-free
- Stay longer? You'll pay NZ taxes from day one, just like locals

So pack your bags, bring your laptop, and experience New Zealand while staying connected to your work!
